Discovering the Function of Mirror Neurons
Prof. Giacomo Rizzolatti
Professor Emeritus of Human Physiology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Parma, Italy.
Director of the URT Parma of CNR Neuroscience Institute
Professor Giacomo Rizzolatti will guide us to discover the function of mirror neurons. These are a class of neurons that are recruited both when subjects perform a given motor act and when subjects observe another individual performing a motor act with a similar goal.
Based on this mechanism, they seem to be involved in many cognitive processes, including encoding action goals, understanding others’ actions and emotions, and empathy.
